The name isiGude comes from the isiZulu word for the Bird of Paradise — a plant rooted in southern African soil, known for its structure, resilience, and quiet strength. In Zulu tradition, plants carry meaning beyond their function; they are tied to memory, healing, and the wisdom of those who came before. The Bird of Paradise grows tall without ornament, holds its form through seasons of change, and asks nothing of its surroundings to thrive. We chose this name because it reflects what we believe wellness should be — grounded, intentional, and built to last. There is a thread here similar to the West African concept of Sankofa, the idea that moving forward well requires looking back — returning to what is natural, what is real, what has always worked. That is the spirit we bring to how we curate, source, and serve.
